Chester County is full of diverse communities and unique pallets that are just waiting to be discovered. Which is why we are excited to announce that we will review local restaurants here in our delightful county and to provide insights on the various dinning experiences that our county has to offer. We will be reviewing at least one restaurant bi-weekly and we are on the lookout for everything from small, cozy hideaways, to lively venues filled with live entertainment and savory foods.
After living in the Chester County area for almost thirteen years I have created some fond memories enjoying dinner out with my family and friends. There are times, when I feel the need for a break, going out to listen to live music, eat great foods, and totally enjoy the ambiance of a local restaurants is so satisfying.
This week’s review is of a wonderful restaurant, located on Route 162, in charming Marshalton at the heart of Chester County.

This week’s review is of a restaurant that was once named the The Oyster Bar. The building, where the restaurant is located, was once a stable for the Marshalton Inn. It eventually was converted to small shops. However, in 1978 the building was once again renovated, but this time converted into a restaurant, which today, is now the home to the Four Dogs Tavern. David Cox became the chef and co-owner of the Four Dogs Tavern and the Marshalton Inn in 2006. The name of the restaurant comes from the print of four foxhounds that hangs just inside the entrance. You can find more about the history of the restaurants on the website.
For many in the area, the Four Dogs Tavern is the “go to” place to eat. It is well respected by the locals. The food is prepared fresh, with local ingredients the restaurant serves great flat-breads, sandwiches and other dishes along with draft beers and wine.
The restaurant offers live music from time to time. If you enjoy dining outdoors in the summer and early fall, this is the place to have a great meal and is dog friendly. Yes, you can bring your furry member of the family to join you for a nice lunch or early dinner outside – so long as they are on a leash and well-behaved. It wouldn’t be four dogs tavern if there weren’t any dogs there, right?
There’s something on the menu for everyone; however, if you are a lover of cheeses, then this is the place for you. We recommend you try the French Onion Soup. You will not be disappointed. The menu has an assortment of delicious foods, there’s plenty of drink selections and the service is excellent. The Four Dogs Tavern, is kid friendly too. There is a kids’ menu with many choices.
A popular restaurant and highly recommended!
