17th Annual 48hrs of Tristate. Jan 11-14, 2018 – A Subaru Enthusiasts Winter Event

Each year, a group of Subaru enthusiasts gather for the 48HRS of Tristate Annual Charity Drive.  The 1,000-mile journey reunites old friends and welcomes new ones for three days of driving and camaraderie – all to raise money for a great cause! This year, like last year, they are raising funds for the Make-A-Wish Foundation – a charity which makes “wishes” for children with life threatening medical conditions.

The 48Hours of Tristate first ran in 2002 in support of families impacted by the September 11 attacks, and it has grown over the last 17 years. The trip has always occurred during the Martin Luther King holiday day weekend because of two primary reasons. First, for many of the participants, it’s a long weekend with Monday being a holiday for many, and secondly, as the drivers will tell you, Subaru vehicles are built to drive in the snow. So why not organize an annual charity drive were the participants can get out and “play in the snow!”

Who are these crazy participants? They are people from all walks of life – lawyers, doctors, teachers, auto auto mechanics, veterans and many more. Some come along with their families, while others come alone. But at the end of the trip they are all one whole family!

This year’s trip will start on Friday morning, January 12th., at the Make-A-Wish Castle in central New Jersey. The participants will spend most of the morning and early afternoon at the Make-A-Wish facility. During this time they will have an opportunity to tour the facility before they hit the roads and head west to the Pennsylvania Pocono Mountains.

In the past, the various trips travel a large circular route cover lots of ground and spending nights in various hotels.  But not this year!  As stated on the 48HRS of Tristate website, “This year’s trip we will be doing something a bit different…   …we will be trying out a hub-and-spoke style route where we will have the same hotel on both Friday and Saturday nights and head out each day and return back to the same hotel.”  They believe this will give them better opportunity for “back road driving” with less time constraints.

Friday night will be an exciting night for the participants because they will get to spend two hours testing their racing skills at Slick Willy’s Karting in Wyomissing, PA.

Saturday, January 13th., the participants will spend the day driving their Subaru vehicles along the back roads  of the Pennsylvania Pocono Mountains and enjoying the “scenic winterscapes.”

Sunday, January 14th., the last day of the event, participants will check out early in the morning and work their way back to New Jersey via a  route up through New York.  The event will end at the closing dinner in Northern New Jersey.

This is the first year, Chester County Journal, will be one of the many sponsors of this great winter event.

If you own a Subaru and you love driving in the snow, then get involved with this rewarding event.  We highly recommend it. It’s tons of fun for all and a great way to bring a smile to a child with big wishes!
